About the Show.
To overcome his tragic childhood, James uses anger management techniques to control The Angry Monster Inside. Can he convince his friend, Isaiah, to do likewise and accept his basketball suspension over the lure of drugs and easy licks?
Why it’s important.
This show is the FireWriters Ensemble’s annual new musical created from stories written by youth inside the Illinois Youth Center of Chicago, a juvenile incarceration facility on the West side. The Angry Monster Inside is a culmination of a full year’s worth of work in writing sessions and rehearsals that have provided these resilient youth with a creative outlet and opportunity to work together.
Audiences are in for an inspiring event showcasing the bravery of young people to tell their true stories to the public. These shows often hold unforgettable moments of surprise, humor, and resonance that call the audiences’ expectations into question–moments that define the power of storytelling.
