In BEAUTIFUL BEASTS, a group of misfit teens’ desire to take responsibility for shelter animals on a “to-kill” list changes all of their lives. Caring for these animals will help them learn the true meaning of acceptance. The Teens Together Playwriting Ensemble has been working on ...BEASTS since September.

The ensemble will present a preview of BEAUTIFUL BEASTS on April 26, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Columbia College’s Quincy Wong Center (623 S. Wabash, Chicago, IL 60605). Admission is free; reservations are required. Go to www.storycatchers.org to make a reservation. This preview will give audiences a first look at what will become the Summer Touring Ensemble’s 2014 production.

BEAUTIFUL BEASTS is the result of a unique collaboration between the Teens Together and the Eagle Theater from J.I. Case High School in Racine, Wisconsin. Participants shared stories over Skype, as well as on visits to Chicago by Racine students. This partnership allowed teens from both programs to see how issues of bullying, depression, and heartbreak cross state lines.

“This group has been particularly open and brave with each other. They’re not afraid to take a risk if it will benefit the process and the story,” Aimee Stahlberg explained of the ensemble’s writing process.
