I believe that art and story-telling have the ability to transform a person’s life. Since 2009, I have worked with youth all over Chicago, supporting them to tell their stories and learn from their personal experiences. As an award winning author of auto-biographical fiction, I believe writing is an opportunity for more than just breathtaking art; I believe it offers the chance for the writer to find their voice and feel empowered to grow from their experiences. I believe the encounters the young people share at Storycatchers can change the community.
I was trained in creative writing at Columbia College Chicago, where I earned my MFA. I have been published on a number of websites and in print in Columbia College Chicago’s award winning anthology Hair Trigger. I received a Gold Circle Award in 2014 for my short story, “How to Make a Rag Rug”.
