Storycatchers has served girls incarcerated at the Illinois Youth Center-Warrenville with the program formerly known as Fabulous Females since 2002. In March 2016, after an initiative to find alternatives to incarceration significantly reduced the female population at Warrenville, the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice transitioned the facility to co-ed. The ensemble of girls and boys now known as Word Warriors begins a new writing cycle each January, and the program includes staged readings and previews of the work-in-progress in March, May, and August. A partnership with the Negaunee Music Institute at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra provides Citizen Musician Fellows of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago to accompany the Word Warriors for the four final performances of a fully-produced original one-act musical every November.
