Sheila Beth Kalish, dear friend and supporter of MTW, died on January 19, 2009. An attorney concerned with juvenile justice and other social issues, Sheila was a champion for many of the young people the company worked with at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center and the Illinois Youth Center in Warrenville. In 2005, she introduced MTW to another of her favorite organizations, Know Your Chicago (KYC), an annual fall lecture and tour series designed to promote civic awareness and participation. More than 200 KYC subscribers attended performances of MAKING IT in November 2005. Many of those women continue to be supporters, volunteers and audience members for MTW. At a memorial service on April 5, 2009 family and friends gathered to remember Sheila's wit, wisdom and generosity of spirit.
