IYC-Warrenville Seeks Speakers & Personal Care Products

Posted: 5/4/2009

Many people ask, "What can I do to help the girls at Warrenville? How can I get involved?" Judith Davis, Superintendent of the Illinois Youth Center at Warrenville, is always looking for individuals who want to help the residents there.
Jill Morgenthaler, former Illinois Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety, and a volunteer at the facility, is developing a Guest Speaker's program for the young women. She is looking for women who have been or are in non-traditional career fields or who have overcome abuse to live successful lives. The volunteer program takes place on Sundays. If interested, please contact Jill via email, at gijill@netzero.net.
"Believe it or not," Davis said, "one of the most important things people can do to help, is to provide name brand hygiene and hair-care products for the girls. The state supplies generic soap, shampoo and deodorant. The girls prefer to use Dove. It smells better and makes the girls feel better. We also need hair care products specifically designed for ethnic hair, black and white cloth-covered-hair elastics, and cosmetics."
"If the girls can start their day feeling like their hair looks good and their skin is clear, it gives them confidence. When they're happy and feel good about the way they look, they're not grumpy and their whole day is better."
Gift cards to Sally's Beauty Supply, Target, Wal-Mart, Costco, Blockbuster, Borders or Barnes and Noble and Phone/Calling cards are also welcome.
Donations of products, gift cards or checks are tax deductible when made to Illinois Youth Center Warrenville - Resident Benefit Fund, the non-profit foundation dedicated to providing support for the residents of IYC, Warrenville. Mail donations to,
