MTW BOARD PROUDLY WELCOMES FOUR NEW DIRECTORS
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to welcome four new directors onto the MTW board,” said Lael Johnson, Chairman of the MTW Board Resource Committee. Iris Witkowsky, Cil Rockwell, Zoa Norman and Wesley Morgan accepted nomination to the MTW board in early 2008. “Cil, Iris, Wes and Zoa each bring fresh perspectives and energy to the board.”
“I was so impressed by MTW when I saw the Fabulous Females show at the Illinois Youth Center, Warrenville (IYC-W) when it was one of the Know Your Chicago tours a couple of years ago, that I began by being a contributor,” explained Witkowsky. “Then I asked if I could join the Board; I felt so strongly about what MTW does!”
Witkowsky helped organize members of the Fortnightly Club of Chicago to attend a trip to the 2007 performance of “Believe Me” at IYC-W. Rockwell was part of that audience; “There was a moment of such pure theatre, such authentic emotion, that I knew I wanted to work with people who could produce this kind of therapeutic honesty with its real potential for change in the lives of troubled young people, I was hooked.”
Stephanie Arkin, chair of the MTW Finance and Audit Committee, hosted a house party for MTW in August 2007. She invited Morgan. “I saw a musical program performance, talked with other MTW members,” said Morgan. “I have experience in the performing arts, am committed to community service. MTW is a perfect fit for me!”
Jason Carver, MTW Board Chair, makes a point of bringing friends to MTW performances. He invited Norman to a performance of “Believe Me.” She too, could not resist becoming involved. “There are many things that the young women at IYC-W would not experience without MTW: meeting deadlines, a sense of accomplishment by completing something, collaboration, sharing intimate feelings, performing to a live audience, commitment, and trust,” Norman said. ”It is my honor to be a small part of this work.”
